welp, its over. review was on wednesday and as always it could have gone better. it was neat to be able to walk around everyones stuff and really see what was going on with it and what they were talking about. the reviewers didnt totally seem to know the whole project brief so some of the stuff they said directly contradicted things that david had told us. thats always a little frustrating but interesting to hear everyones perspective.
the epic event was great. a lot of people showed up and it seemed like everyone was having a good time. a lot of my friends came so that was really nice and i got to show them this stuff that ive been talking about for so long. it is always so hard to explain to people so showing them was really…epic. i also got to explain our project to not just my friends but other parents and professionals that showed up. it was neat. my mom came too, im really glad. it meant a lot to have her see what i have been doing.

this is just a real quick update on what ive been working on. after building the full scale model all last week, we are moving on to solid works (pictured below since most people probably dont even know what solidworks means) and the beginnings of our presentation!

sorry this is a day later than it probably should have been written. my schedule has been a little messed up recently, 9 hours of sleep with 3 nights combined is just not enough to function correctly. we were in the shop all thursday night and by 8 that morning, we are done enough with our model to do the skit. there is not a working water fall, but thats ok, its a cool detail but its really not necessary to have it working for now. im really proud of how much work we got done this past week. it took a lot of time and it caused a lot of stress and some tears, but i am proud of what we have ended up with. i would never have guessed that i could have made something like that. i dont have any pictures b/c they are on chris’s camera, but there are a bunch on our tumblr - espresso-te.tumblr.com

so this is in place of yesterdays post…didnt get home from the shop until 4 something a.m. and now im awake again about to go work on my portfolio for professional practice. thats due at 1:30, still about 8 more major things on our barista to-do list, but multiple other commitments to attend to in the next 2 days. are we going to finish by friday? im honestly not sure, i hope so.
we got all the counter tops except the curved one on last night and veneer strips along the front to show the thickness of the tops. build one wall (just bare bones right now, no sheet material on it).
i guess i could write the to-do list here, maybe that would help with making sure it gets done,

this thing shoots 3 inch nails through a 2×4 into concrete with a noise that sounds like a gunshot. awesome.
chop saw, nail gun, drill, power fastener, climbing metal rails to make shelves, home depot runs. what a day. the frame of the barista station is started and on its way.
still not sure how to make the rotating shelves but that will happen im sure. i guess we will get there when we get there.
right now we are pretty much just working on the final concept and the illustrator views to build our full scale model. its a little tedious trying to figure out just how big we want each part to be, but i know that it will really help us out in the end. we start building monday morning and then hopefully it will go relatively smoothly and quickly because the next 2 weeks are going to be crazy. finishing school and packing for chile is a whole lot of work.
oh well. still not done so gotta keep working…

the final deadline is a week later than originally set and chris and i have some fun ideas for our barista station. it is kind of fun b/c we were told today to just go for it. whatever we want. blue sky. no money limit. that changes things. also we get to design the look of this coffee shop. one thing that was kind of holding me back or confusing me was trying to design a station that could be placed into any coffee shop no matter what the theme. nay. we get to just go for it. i think we are going to do something with a zen feel to it…ironic since coffee makes you hyped up. maybe we can play on that irony.
ill list some stuff that will be included/thought about…but i probably cant remember all of it off the top of my head:
waterfall/liquid disposal lazy river water feature
rotating shelves
neat geometric shaped shelves
self dispensing muffins
2 separate stations coming together to one ‘out’ counter space

3 weeks today and im on the plane to santiago. i cant wait. im ready for a change of scenery and a change of pace and a change of purpose.
the next 3 weeks are going to be crazy and busy and exciting and busy and stressful and busy but good. lots of school work, lots of stuff to get ready for chile, lots of people to spend time with before i peace out for 3 months.
next week holds a final, a portfolio, a full size model of a barista station, and countless chores and goals to accomplish.
gah i cant wait.
our final project feels very daunting. it is due in 2 weeks and we are just getting started. we are supposed to have 5 full concepts and models by friday…it feels like cfy all over again. huge deliverable expectations in minimal time. chris and i have a pretty decent breakdown for friday so our five concepts should make sense individually to solve a certain problem. we then plan on combining these ideas into one mega concept. the 5 areas are storage/organization, disposal, noise, heat, and making the space easy to use for new baristas. its going to be tough but hopefully we can come up with a pretty solid conclusion.
ps anyone know what our models for friday are supposed to be made out of?
